Welcome to the Southern NH Women’s Business Network newsletter! The kick-off to summer has arrived! We hope you all enjoyed your Memorial Day weekend and are looking forward to a long, hot summer. This summer’s events are full of fun and celebration, as well as fantastic opportunities to network with like-minded business women in NH. We’re not letting the economy get us down! These are times to work smarter and that means networking. The power of building relationships and allowing those to burgeon into new opportunities is as old as time. One of our board directors just landed a new job (in this economy!) simply by nurturing a relationship with a representative of her new company, so that they knew who she was. When the opportunity arose, they thankfully thought of her and now she’s newly employed. Making yourself visible, working on your communication skills and building relationships with people, who can support and refer you, are vital in this economy... and always. Southern NH Women’s Business Network provides monthly opportunities in fun and supportive environments to do just that. Visit one of our events and Expand Your Horizons!
Best Regards,
The SNHWBN Board of Directors

In today’s competitive job market, good interview skills are a MUST. Companies are being flooded with hundreds and hundreds of applications, and have their choice of premium candidates who’ve been laid off from failing companies. Some entrepreneurs are going back to work as they see their businesses slowing, adding that pool of talent to the job market. It’s important to remember that good interview skills are a must all of the time, but in these times, there are things you definitely don’t want to do, to ensure a solid interview process. This article walks through some of the basic interview tactics you should be taking to the site and more importantly, what you should leave at home.

Smart Women Finish Rich begins with an introductory chapter that makes a powerful argument for why individuals, particularly women, should understand the basics of personal finance. Bach even argues that women are often predisposed to be better at personal finance management than men once they take that first step to learn about it - and that first step is what Smart Women Finish Rich is intended to be. From here, the book is broken into seven “steps” to start being financially secure followed by two detailed appendices well worth reading.
One of our board directors found it very helpful. Although she was well-educated and able to land a great job out of school, she was always terrible at managing and understanding money. She had never really received any financial education, at home or in school. She found this book to be a good introduction for women, to the world of understanding and managing their money. The author’s concepts are simple and doable (very important!), and the book is an easy, enjoyable read (equally as important). She says, “His book does a good job of making you focus on how your spending habits and emotions are oftentimes related. His anecdotes also do a good job of making you focus on lining up your financial habits with your goals for the future and creating financial freedom. The book helped me move from the paycheck-to-paycheck syndrome to where I was actually focusing on making my money work for my future and not just for the here and now.”
If you’ve read other David Bach books (Smart Couples Finish Rich, Automatic Millionaire), you may find that much of the information is the same, but is geared to different audiences. If you’ve never read a David Bach book, Smart Women Finish Rich is a worthwhile tome, moving you towards financial freedom and security. And who couldn’t use that?
